In elementary school, your child will experience academic rigor in subjects ranging from reading/language arts to math, science, social studies, health, art, music (vocal and instrumental) and physical education.

Throughout the elementary grades, your child will have opportunities to develop leadership and collaboration skills; benefit from the many academic and supportive partnerships with parents and community organizations; and receive support services for gifted learners or students with special needs, as appropriate.

Magnet schools

District 279 magnet schools allow students to deepen their learning in special focus areas. There are three elementary magnet schools in Osseo Area Schools:

Birch Grove Elementary School for the Arts, where core curriculum is integrated with music, dance, drama and visual arts for daily classroom instruction.
Weaver Lake Elementary: A Science, Math & Technology (STEM) School, where students who discover answers and solve challenges through reading, research and investigation become lifelong learners.
Zanewood Community School: A Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) School, where scholars are taught to be problem solvers, creators and collaborators, and where learning activities are designed to be inclusive of all scholars’ cultures.

Applying to magnet schools

Submit your completed magnet school application online starting Oct. 15; the priority deadline is Dec. 31. For help with the application, please call 763-450-1300.

Within district guidelines, free transportation is provided to magnet school students who enroll through the Northwest Suburban Integration School District.

Technology

Thanks to a supportive community, our digital learning plan promotes personalized learning, which means students receive instruction that is delivered at the appropriate pace, is tailored to their learning styles, and motivates them based on their individual interests. The plan includes a one-to-one mobile device program (grades four through 12) and other levels of technology access in lower grades.

Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education programs help students gain academic and technical knowledge, skills, competencies and attitudes required in college and careers.
