Elm Creek Elementary School families gather for reading night

Students and families gathered at Elm Creek Elementary School on April 3 for a family reading night, participating in a number of activities to help encourage reading growth.

Students and families moved around to different stations throughout the school, participating in a variety of activities, including a photo booth, phonics games, making a bookmark, building oral language through play, a word assembly activity, a multicultural community art project and listening to a guest reader read a storybook out loud.

If the scholars completed at least five of the activities at the stations, they earned a free book to bring home with them. There was also a book swap at the family and arts night, which allowed scholars to bring books from home that they had already read and exchange them for books that were new to them.

Many of the stations were assisted by middle and high school volunteers who used to attend Elm Creek, and came back to help the event be a successful night of reading and learning for all.
