There is a “NO WHEELS on the SCHOOL GROUNDS” policy.

For safety reasons, if students ride a bike, scooter, skateboard, shoes with retractable wheels or Roller-blades to school, they must be off the “wheels” when they arrive on the school grounds.

Bike racks are provided for students who choose to ride their bikes to school. Remember to lock up your bike.

Welcome to the Elm Creek Volunteer Program!  Volunteers are an important part of our school and we appreciate the time you share with our students and staff!  While some volunteers are able to volunteer weekly, others can only commit to a few times during the school year. We appreciate and encourage any level of participation.  There are many opportunities for volunteers to help from home too!

VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS

All volunteers must have a current volunteer application on file.     

Adult Volunteers   Adults over 18 wishing to volunteer at Elm Creek must complete the District Volunteer Application. This includes parents, grandparents or other extended family, community members, retirees, college students, etc.

Youth Volunteers   Middle school and high school students under 18 should print and complete the Youth Volunteer Application Form and schedule an appointment to meet with me and discuss current opportunities.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

There are many ways to get involved at Elm Creek – both at school and at home.  

Special or One-Time Events:  Field Days, Health Screening, Art Adventure, Classroom Parties & Field Trips

Ongoing Opportunities: At-Home Projects, Cafeteria Volunteers, Kindergarten Lunch, Media Center, Laminating, Special Project Requests (classroom prep for teachers), Classroom Assistants, Friday “Popcorn Patrol”

PTO Events:  Apex Fun Run, Scholastic Book Fair, Turkey Bingo, Holiday Gift Shop, Spring Carnival, Silent Auction, Family Fun Events

TRACKING VOLUNTEER HOURS

Our school district tracks volunteer hours each year.  Parents, community and youth volunteers who help onsite during the school day are asked to sign in and out using the volunteer computer in the main office.  By logging in and out of the system when you are at school volunteering, your hours are automatically tracked and saved.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework for organizing strategies to enhance academic and social outcomes using data-based decision making. 

At Elm Creek we SOAR (Strive to do our best, Own our actions, Act respectfully and are Ready to learn).  Research shows that when students understand expectations, are taught those expectations and have those expectations reinforced through positive means, they are more likely to demonstrate positive behaviors.  This in turn leads to improved academic achievement and school climate.

S.O.A.R. Tickets

Our Elm Creek staff community utilizes S.O.A.R. tickets to recognize positive student behavior. All staff have S.O.A.R. tickets that are printed on orange cardstock paper. Our staff will be passing out these tickets to students that demonstrate Striving to their best, Owning their actions, Acting respectfully and are Ready to learn. The S.O.A.R. tickets can come from any staff member in the building.

Students that receive a SOAR ticket will bring home part of the ticket that recognizes the positive behavior that they have demonstrated. The other piece will go into a grade level bucket for a weekly drawing that will be recognized on the ECTV along with a certificate for their achievement.

Another component of PBIS is to celebrate our achievements school wide. This happens monthly when all classrooms have meet a targeted ticket goal. Some examples of school wide celebrations are the following: Dance Party, Flashlight Reading, Extra Recess and Game Day.

Golden Trophies

As a part of PBIS and schoolwide pride, students work towards earning a Golden Trophy in classrooms and specific areas in the school. These trophies include the Golden Tray in the cafeteria, Golden Vacuum in the classroom, and the Golden Plunger in restroom areas.

The Golden Tray can be earned as a grade level by SOARing in the cafeteria. To earn this trophy students are showing respectful behaviors, quiet voice levels, and cleaning up their table when finished with their lunch time. The Cafeteria ESPs will reward the grade level each week with the trophy.

Our building custodians will award the Golden Vacuum to the classroom whose pride shines through the cleanliness of their room. Areas in the classroom are picked up, classroom is organized, hallway/locker area near classroom is tidy and neat, and a welcoming atmosphere will all play factors in being awarded the Golden Vacuum on a weekly basis.

Another common area in our building that is awarded a trophy are the bathrooms. The Golden Plunger is awarded to a grade level area restroom for cleanliness and students following the SOAR expectations. The custodians will decide which restroom is Golden Plunger-worthy!
